Our Portable Contents option

Whether you’re a homeowner, strata owner-occupier or renter, if you need cover for your belongings away from home, you’ll need to add the Portable Contents option to your contents cover for an additional premium.

You can tailor your cover to suit your needs. We’ll ask you to nominate what types of items you’d like to cover away from home. Categories include:

  • Mobile phones
  • Jewellery and watches
  • Portable electronic devices
  • Bicycles
  • Recreational, hobby items and clothing
  • Permitted medical and health items
  • Collections.

You can set your own limit for each category. Easy!

How to avoid underinsurance

You know how important it is to insure your home and belongings, but are you sure you’ve got enough cover? You can use the contents insurance calculator to estimate roughly how much it could cost to replace your belongings with new items. By providing general information about your home the calculator can provide an estimated contents value and summary that you can further edit for a more detailed result if you wish.

Portable contents frequently asked questions

If you add the Portable Contents option to your contents cover, cover is provided for the items you have selected for accidental loss or damage away from home, plus loss or damage caused by things like theft, fire, flood and more. For more details, please refer to your PDS and Certificate of Insurance.

Portable contents are personal items that are designed to be used, worn or carried away from home.

You can add the Portable Contents option to your contents cover, for an additional premium, to insure items away from your home. You can choose from a range of categories:

  1. Mobile phones
  2. Jewellery and watches
  3. Portable electronic devices
  4. Bicycles
  5. Recreational, hobby items and clothing
  6. Permitted medical and health items
  7. Collections.

Limits apply to each category. You can pick the limit when you get a quote. If you have an item that exceeds the maximum limit, just tell us. If we agree to insure it, we can specify it as an individual item.

There are category limits and specified item limits, depending on the cover you have selected. You can find more information about the limits, conditions and exclusions in your Certificate of Insurance and PDS.

When you add the Portable Contents option to your contents cover and select the category you’d like to insure e.g. mobile phones, cover is provided for the category of items for accidental loss or damage at or away from home up to the limit you select.

When you add portable contents cover to a home insurance policy, cover is provided for the portable items you have selected anywhere in Australia and New Zealand, and for up to 90 consecutive days anywhere else in the world.

Yes. When you choose this option, cover is provided for the portable contents items you have selected when you’re on holiday in Australia or New Zealand all year round during your period of insurance. If you holiday overseas, cover is provided for up to 90 consecutive days.
