You can:

To lodge your claim, you’ll need:

  • Your QBE policy number
  • Details of what happened
  • Details of other people involved, such as names and contact details of third parties and witnesses.

A dedicated claims officer will manage your claim. We may be able to make a decision on your claim if we have all the details or, we’ll let you know if we need to know more.

You’ll need to get a quote from your repairer and we’ll help you through the repairs process. We’ll also assign a marine surveyor to inspect the damage and help settle your claim.

We’ll tell you if there are any excesses to pay. You can also talk to us if you’re in financial hardship.

We may write off your boat if it’s stolen or, it costs more to repair than its value. Then we’ll pay out your claim after we deduct any excesses, registration fees and premiums that apply.

If we authorise your boat’s repair, you can arrange when to drop it off to your repairer. All repairs we authorise have a guarantee on their quality and workmanship, for as long as you own your boat.

Frequently Asked Questions

Your policy covers you whilst you're in Australian waters (within 200 nautical miles of the Australian coast).

After you've lodged your claim, including the details of other involved parties, we'll take care of any issues should they get in touch. Simply refer any calls or correspondence to us.

Yes, all accidents, claims and infringements must be declared when you take out your policy and on every following renewal.

An excess is the amount you agree to pay towards a claim. More than one excess may apply in some circumstances.

If we decide an accident wasn’t your fault, you may not need to pay an excess. If you do need to pay it, we may ask you to pay it to the repairer after they fix your boat.

If your boat isn’t damaged, you may still need to pay an excess to QBE for repairs to other vehicles or property. Check the Product Disclosure Statement for your policy, to see what excesses may apply.

If you’re having financial difficulties and struggling to pay your excess, talk to your claims officer or call us on 133 723.

We know it can be a tough time when your boat is damaged or lost. That’s why we allocate a QBE Marine Surveyor to help you through the claim process.

Your marine surveyor will provide an expert opinion on your boat’s damage or loss, under the guidance of our claims officer. They’ll:

  • Review the circumstances of your claim
  • Assess the damage or loss
  • Help you get a repair or replacement quote
  • Help our claims officer settle your claim.

Your repairer is your main contact while they fix your boat. Once QBE has authorised your boat’s repair, the repair time will depend on the extent of the damage to your boat and parts available.
