Workers Compensation Insurance

Your employer's responsibilities

If you are employed under a 'contract of service' or a 'contract for service' your employer is required to take out Workers Compensation insurance.

A 'contract of service' exists where an employer directly engages a worker in employment. A 'contract for service' exists where an individual works on a regular and systematic basis for a principal.

A contract can be express or implied, made either orally or in writing and applies to full time, part time and casual workers.

Employers who are unclear about their requirements for a workers compensation insurance policy, including other rights and responsibilities, can contact our QBE ACT team direct on 02 6201 3333 or visit WorkSafe ACT.

Additional information on worker rights and responsibilities is also available from WorkSafe ACT.
