Aviation insurance & Aircraft insurance

Q: What factors do insurance companies use to determine my premium?

A: Our underwriters will amongst other things take in to account: the aircraft type and model, pilot history  age and experience, currency, proficiency and recurrent training, the maintenance organisation, specific uses, utilisation and location.
 
Q: What is a “Combined Single Limit of Liability”?

A: Combined Single Limit is an aggregate limit in any accident, in respect to Third Party and/or Passenger Legal Liability. There is no limit in respect to any one person, only to the aggregate.

Q: What limits of liability should I carry?

A: limit of liability should be sufficient to protect the assets of the pilot in the event of an accident having regard to the number and worth of the passengers carried. Usually our underwriters could give you an indication of the average limit of liability carried for a type of aircraft and provide premium differentials for higher and lower limits so that you can make an informed decision.

Q: Is there any type of additional training that would lower my premiums?

A: QBE recognises and rewards a range of proficient /recurrent training and safety courses. Sometimes attendance at such courses is a pre-requisite for cover and a premium concession may be made for attendance.
 
Q: How do I ensure my family is protected when they fly with me?

A: Our policy will respond to liability claims by family members.

Q: Is there liability coverage if I injure a co-owner of my aircraft?

A: This cover may be available on request.

Q: What coverage options are generally available on an aviation insurance policy?

A: You can select aircraft material damage for: Ground Risks Only basis, or Ground & Taxing Risks Only basis, or for Flight Risks (which includes Taxing and Ground Risks cover). In respect to liability you can buy Third Party Liability only (which excludes passengers).

Q: Are you able to provide liability coverage for a hangar that I own or occupy?

A: Yes, QBE offers Hangarkeepers Liability.

Q: In the event of a claim what must I pay for?

A: Firstly, you must wear the cost of the Policy Excess (sometimes called a Deductible). In addition you must contribute to any betterment you receive from the provision of lived components, i.e. we would require you to pay for the hours you have already done on your engine/propeller prior to the loss. 

Note: For piston-engine aircraft, the Contribution Clause may be removed on request of payment of an additional premium (in some circumstances).
