Information for customers affected by the Melbourne Christmas Day storms

29 December 2011

The Australian insurance industry has received more than 15,000 claims following the storms that hit Melbourne on Christmas Day, including about 11,000 received on 27 and 28 December alone.

QBE continues to work to assist all affected customers, with all phone lines readily available to respond to claims and enquiries, and assessors and adjustors engaged for those who have already reported losses.

Contact QBE now to make a claim

To make a claim, please contact your insurance intermediary or, if you are insured directly with QBE, call 133 QBE (133 723) and press 2 for Claims.

You do not need to return to your home or have your insurance documents readily at hand before getting in touch.

Should you experience any delays, please use our call me back service  to leave your contact details and we will get back to you.

Steps you can take to support your claim

We appreciate that lodgement of claims may not be able to occur immediately for our customers who have been directly impacted by this event, and encourage those impacted to lodge their claims as soon as practicable.

Here are some steps you can take now to help us process your claim:

  • Make an inventory of possessions damaged as a result of the storm, including taking photographs and keeping receipts
Contact us before authorising any repairs. Emergency repairs should only be undertaken in the first instance if your property is unsafe.
  • QBE will assess all reported claims according to the policy wordings and terms and conditions applicable to each individual policy, and it is important to check what you are and are not covered for.

Together with the Insurance Council of Australia, we remain readily available to provide support for all our customers affected by this event.
