The Australian operations executive comprises the chief executive officer, the chief financial officer and the executive general managers of the QBE Australia business areas.

Terry Ibbotson, Chief Executive Officer - Australian Operations

PhD, MBA, BCom
Mr Ibbotson was appointed chief executive officer of QBE’s Australian operations in 2007. He has over 40 years’ experience in the insurance industry. Mr Ibbotson joined QBE in 1993 and since that time has served in various general management roles, including as chief operating officer of Australian operations.

Jason Brown, Executive General Manager - Chief Risk Officer

CA, BEc
Mr Brown is a Chartered Accountant has been involved in the financial services industry for over 20 years including in consulting, audit and senior executive roles. He joined QBE Australia in 2002 and has previously held the roles of General Manager, Finance and Technical, and General Manager, Technical & Operations. In his current role, Jason is responsible for managing enterprise risk, governance, internal audit, business continuity and our legal and compliance teams.

Colin Fagen, Executive General Manager - Intermediary Distribution

Mr Fagen has been involved in the Insurance industry for over 19 years. His extensive employment history has covered operational, marketing, relationship management and senior executive roles across all classes of general insurance. In his current role, Colin is responsible for providing strategic leadership and operational management to the various business units that provide services to all Australian Intermediaries. This division provides the largest income to QBE Australia and employs in excess of 2000 staff.

Kieran Hickey, Executive General Manager - People & Perfomance

Mr Hickey’s role in Human Resources supports both our Australia and Asia Pacific businesses. Kieran has extensive senior leadership experience over 20 years in the insurance industry covering the full scope of Sales, Operational and Strategic Human Resource Management. Kieran leads our major transformational change program focussed on our high performance culture and also has experience in leading large call centre, claims and national branch teams specialising in insurance across multiple brands.

Tony MacRae, Executive General Manager - Corporate Partners & Direct

Mr MacRae has over 30 years’ experience in general insurance. He joined QBE in 2006 and was appointed Executive General Manager Corporate Partners & Direct in 2007. Tony is responsible for Underwriting Agencies, Business Partners, Financial Institutions, Motor Trades, QBE Direct, Travel, Motorcycle and Marine Specialty Risks.

Tim Plant, Managing Director, Elders Insurance & Executive General Manager, Technical

Tim joined Elders in 2002 following various roles in insurance and reinsurance with QBE and Swiss Re. Prior to the sale of Elders Insurance Limited to QBE and formation of Elders Insurance Underwriting Agency Pty Ltd, Tim was Managing Director, Elders Financial Services Group. In addition to his role as Managing Director Elders Insurance, he was appointed Executive General Manager, Technical for QBE Australia from January 2010. Elders Insurance comprises a rural and regional network of 209 tied franchised Agents and Salespeople who are supported by regional management staff and a head office team in Adelaide.

Pranav Pasricha, Executive General Manager - Strategy, Technology & Operations

Mr Pasricha has responsibility for Strategy, Technology & Operations, supporting QBE in driving transformational change and achieving competitive advantage through technology. Pranav’s team manages major new projects, technology enhancements that will assist QBE to achieve competitive advantage in the marketplace and reduce operating costs. Pranav’s responsibilities also include identifying opportunities and engaging the organisation in the implementation of efficiency improvements.

Victor Walter, Chief Financial Officer

Mr Walter’s team upholds QBE Australia’s Finance vision to be the first choice for our customers and investors, balancing financial integrity and supporting the future growth of the business and its people. Victor oversees the company’s financial governance, tax advisory services, financial operations, decision support, quality assurance, operational risk, and transactional accounting.



Richard Wulff, Group General Manager - Credit & Surety

Mr Wulff was appointed Group General Manager of QBE’s Credit, Surety and Political Risk in October 2009. Prior to commencing at QBE, Richard did a brief stint in India as Chief Underwriting Officer, writing all major non-life lines of business. Richard received his business degree in his native country of Holland. After spending a decade with NCM in Amsterdam and Dublin in direct underwriting and reinsurance, Richard moved onto Munich Re. In his role, he led various groups in the credit, surety and political risk reinsurance area.
